    Location: In the area of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
    Terroir: Soil is made of big round pebbles where vines can nevertheless take root ! The big pebbles are keeping heat of the day which benefits to the vines during the night.
    Grape varieties : 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah.
    Vinification : Harvest are done by hand in October and the winemaking is done respecting the tradition of this well-known appellation.

    Type of ageing : Ageing is done in oak casks during 14 months.
    Tasting note : A deep purple colour, some delicate red fruits and fig aromas on the nose. On the palate, velvety aromas of black fruits, mint, liquorice, garrigue.
    Food pairing : Try it with game and mushrooms, and also with liquorice ice.
    Awards/Comments : 2009 Wine Spectator 90."A juicy, slightly old-school style, with bittersweet cocoa, chestnut and tobacco hints weaving through the fleshy raspberry, blackberry and plum sauce flavors. The solid structure is nicely embedded on the finish. Drink now through 2017.—J.M.".
  • The Amadieu family settled in Gigondas in 1929.
    Pierre Amadieu, grandfather of the current winemaker, whose name is also Pierre, started the business with a small estate in Gigondas.

    In 1954, he had the opportunity to buy 280 acres that was not planted with vines. He gradually turned it into a vineyard, starting at the top of the hill at a place called Domaine Grand Romane. Later he also planted vines halfway down the hill at a place named Domaine La Machotte. With these two domains, Pierre Amadieu is now known as a leading AOC Gigondas producer both in quality and quantity.
